Schrade Uncle Henry
OK, I hope there is a knife expert out there. Many years ago I had a Schrade Uncle Henry folding hunting knife, but lost it. A few years ago I found one on eBay and bought it for $125. I think I have now lost that one, but eBay has several now for $20-30, BRAND NEW. What gives?? They were collectors items!!!

Yours was most likely made in the USA. I believe the new ones are made in China. 0 -

The new "Schrades" are stainless where the old ones were carbon steel.
The carbon steel ones take an edge better, and keep it better.
Pattern wise they are very similar.0 -

I can't speak for Schrade but many Ka-Bar folders are now made overseas due to skyrocketing production costs in the US. For example, the "Mule", made in Taiwan, is outstanding quality and as tough a folder as I've ever seen. Ka-Bar told me that this knife, which retails for $66.63, would cost nearly $200 if made in the USA. They still make their military fighting knives in the US.

The old ones were made in Ellenville,NY. They are now made in China. The old ones came with a certificate stating if it was lost you could fill out the certificate and have it notarized mail it in and receive a new knife. that's all done with now. I saw the Uncle Henry Bear Claw in Smoky Mtn. Knife Works catalogue for $29.99. Mine cost $55.00 in 1975. 0 -
I just found a USA made knife on eBay for $95, so I guess the mystery is solved. Thanks for your help. 0 -
It's not the same company. Imperial Schrade went out of business in 2004. Another company bought the rights to produce and are bringing them in from China. 0
