winchester model 1912 12 guage

was the model 12 chambered for 2 1/2" shells? if so,when did they change to 2 3/4"?

  The 12 gauge was always 2 3/4". The 20ga. came out as a 2 1/2" and the 16 ga. came out as a 2 9/16".

  All of the "Model 1912" 20-gauge guns were factory chambered for a 2-1/2" shell. Winchester changed the model name from "1912" to "12" in April of 1919, and then in 1927, they increased the chamber length from 2-1/2" to 2-3/4".
  
  The 12-gauge guns were always chambered for a minimum 2-3/4" shell (or in later years, a 3" shell).
