Robert: please oil the gun vigorously with an oil soaked rag. You will see the rust transferred to the rag, and that's as far as you should go.

I think the gun is pre-1899, and if so, it can be shipped via US Mail directly to the receipient. (No NYC/Wash.DC/Etc). Inform the receipient that ID is required prior to shipment, so you can see just where the gun is going (ship to the address on the ID).

Place it here on auction As Is, and tell the shoppers just what's wrong with it. I think the collectors will prefer to do the repairs themselves, rather then the big unknown of someone messing with it. Best, Joe

    That's what I told him, too, when I realized he planned on selling it. As it was made in 1902, I also suggested he use an FFL dealer for packing and shipping. As you know, C&R's aren't accepted in all states such as New York, and a dealer will pack it properly.
