What's the twist rate on the Ruger Mini-14 in 223 caliber? Thanks.

Nope you got the right one. I am not an expert by any stretch but I have a couple of things that you might look for. If you have the original boxes they might tell you the twist rate other than that you might have to call the factory with serial numbers to find that out. Some of the other guys on here most likely will be able to tell you more or how to find out what the twist is. Good luck and sorry I couldn't be of more help. 0 -
Remington660---You can determine the twist quite easily!!! Put the gun, or bbl. in a padded vice, or wherer you would normally clean your guns. Insert the appropriate size brush, or jag with a cleaning patch into the muzzle, and push all the way in, to just in front of the chamber. Make a mark (around the circumferance of the rod) with a felt tip pen right even with the end of the muzzle. Also, make a parallel (lenght wise) mark on the exact top (vertical) part of the rod. Next, easily pull the rod out of the bbl. to the point where the parallel mark on the rod is again vertical. Measure the distance from the first circumferential mark (on the rod) to the end of the bbl. )muzzle. That dist is your twist rate!!!!! The rod made one turn in how many inches. If you are off a tad, use the closest inch, unless you suspect that you may have a fractional twist (such as 9 1/2"). Double check a couple of times, and you should be good to go. HAWKSHAW 0 -
pull the rod out by the handle, don't grab the rod to pull it out. 0 -
What I generally do is put a tight fitting patch on a cleaning rod, start it into the bore until you can see the rod start to twist. Then I put a length wise mark with a magic marker on the rod near the handle and a cross ways mark on the rod at some reference point at the gun breech. Then push the rod into the bore 'til the length wise mark again appears at the top. Make another cross ways mark at the reference point near the breech. Remove the rod and measure the distance between the two cross ways marks and that's your twist. It may not be precise, but it's probably within 1/2" or so. 0 -
