Bolt on Winchester 1400 HELP

I am having problems reassembling the bolt assembly on a Winchester 1400. The problem is the bolt handle plate. It will not fit between the ejection port edge and the bolt itself. I have put it together out of the gun and have looked at schematics till I am crosseyed and just can't get it to go back in place. Any help would be great.

  Try this when the bolt slide is thru the ejection port tip the bolt handle down that will raise the plate on the inside of the receiver up and you can then slide the bolt under the plate. In other words you are pivoting the plate on the edge of the ejection port. Give it a try.. WAG
