610 .22 cal Remington Rifle

Highball
20 1/2" barrel, Short, Long, Long rifle.
Has Redfield micrometer Rear, globe front. Also has rear irons, typical Remington.

Stamped Targetmaster Model 610;
Barrel code AB2
No serial...looks like a typical 510 .22, walnut stock, swivels and Hunter sling

Single shot.
LOP 12 3/4 ". Buttplate bakelite with MF embossed inside a wreath of wheat or flowers.

Anybody seen anything like this, or know from whence it came ? It appears from one site that '63' 610s were built between '42 and 45'..but no real info.

I do not have access to my Blue Book at the present..don't know if it is listed.

    It's very interesting, as their is no mention of a Model 610 on either Remingtons web-site, or Walters "Rifles of the World".

    Remington came out with the 600 series in 1936. These were made to shoot a proprietary .267 caliber rimfire cartridge that Remington thought would compete with the Winchester .22 W.R.F. Built with 25 inch barrel, bolt action, and one piece American walnut stock. They had a single shot 610A (63 made)and 610P. The P model had partridge type front sight and a new Remington rear peep sight. There was also a 611A and 611P (box magazines). And 612A (tubular mag) and 613S (sporter box mag). Only made a few of these.

    This rifle is clearly marked ;
    .22 Short,Long, or Long Rifle.
    The '2' in the barrel code indicates that the rifle COULD have been rebarreled by Remington, however.

    It appears that this little rifle was altered a bit. The '6' becomes a '5' under bright lights and higher magnification. The tip-off was the top of the number...a straight line instead of a curved tail.

    So I have a 510 TargetMaster with shortened stock and Micrometer sights installed...a perfect training arm for women and children. With no worries about using a valuble rare piece.
    190 bucks.
    A bit much for a Remington single shot..but cheap considering the nice Redfields attached.
