optics/base crookedness problem
I have an AK, so I got a scope mount that goes on the side from AIM Surplus. it's supposed to work for weaver and picatinny mounts.
when I put something with a weaver mount on it, no problem. I suppose because the way those are set up, they adapt to inconsistent rails easier.
when I put something with a picatinny mount, or any quick-release mount, it's canted to the left.

this Reflex with A.R.M.S. #15 mount sits straight on an AR flattop. the picture shows how much off it is on this rail. the rail has been removed here from the rest of the AK optics mount for testing purposes.
a scope with a quick-release base does the same thing. as you can imagine, crosshairs off by this amount are not acceptable.
the rail itself is straight. the top, middle and bottom are parallel to each other.
also the mount and optics are parallel, there is no problem there either.
the problem is in the interface between the optics and the rail. I confirmed this by putting the optics on backwards, and it still leaned to the left. if one or the other was crooked, it would have leaned the other way instead.
I went to a few gun stores, there are other rails to get but all the ones I saw are all weaver-only, and don't match the screw holes anyways.
so what can I do about this? why is it doing this? how can it get fixed?

I would assume that the top slants on the mount that the rings/quick set down on are uneven. If possible I would try to get it replaced. If not any machinist ought to be able to correct this if the mount has enough material. 0 -
Is that a throw lever attachment between the base and the optic? Is the side mount square with the sideplate of the rifle? Down to the nitty gritty, a sight like you are showing won't be a problem as it is. It's a problem of looks not function. The sighting in may take a little more fiddling but at AK/red dot range the slight off center condition won't cause misses. You see competition shooters with red dots mounted at 45 degrees to the verticle on AR rifles. At the ranges they shoot, it's still close enough. I'm sure there is a solution to your mounting problem. Check each part to determine which piece is out of whack. 0 -

Just to make sure I'm reading this right. In your picture the sight is leaning left, leaving the rail the same direction and turning the sight around it still leans left correct? This is why i assume it is the slant on the rail. If it were the sight it would change direction. If you leave the sight the same direction as in picture and turn the rail around does it still lean left?0 -

Well, then, it's the rail! Now, if you were to true the top by using a bubble-level, the problem is with the underside, where the claws 'bite'. That's what's throwing it off.
Ya got a 'bum' rail, pard! Don't work on it, replace it! (See if you can borrow someone else's M1913 rail and check for yourself). Best, Joe0 -
Since your rail is off, find a picatinny rail on something you know works and line them up. I bet with that much slant you will be able to see a difference - width of rail or angles mismatched. With the other pics and reading a little closer I agree that the rail is the problem. Since it seems to be equal measurements the rail may be to narrower or the angles mismatched when compared putting the sight in a bind. 0 -
The problem is the part of the mounting system that is on the sight that MOVES when you tighten . It bottoms out on a different place on the V part of the rifle rail the movable side of the sight mount bottoms out at the bottom of the V in the rifle rail the fixed side is held slightly above the bottom of the rail because the sight itself hits the top of the rail. You either have to relieve this side of the sight or this side of the rail. 0
