Luger value
I have a friend who has just aquired a German Luger. The pistol is in good shape with some holster wear. The pistol also came with the holster that to me is in good shape also. The pistol is marked 1939 with 42 on the toggle. The grooves in the barrel are good also. It has all the proof marks on it. Is there any way to get an approximate value with this info. Thanks.

I have inherited a S/42 1939 Luger numbers matching and an extra clip, condition is very good. has as 3 digit serial # what kinda value I am looking at?? 0 -
The value of a Luger will vary dramatically depending upon originality of finish, matching parts, & condition. You will need to post close-up photos of the gun, plus take it apart so that you can see the numbers on all parts, including the backs of the grips. If we can't see all markings clearly, the photos won't be good enough.
It's difficult to photograph the bore, so a verbal description, such as "bright & shiny, no trace of rust or pitting" will have to do.

Neal gives you good advice I might add a few Things MOST military Lugers have a 4 or fewer Serial number once they got to 9999 they started over with a small SCRIP letter under the serial number. also we need to have pictures of the finish of the top of the frame with the barrel Toggle removed. S/42 is made by Mauser and 1939 is the year made. 0 -
I appreciate the advise, unfortunately I have not a clue how to take it apart, and I live in the state better known as Mexifornia, [:(!]so am a l little uncomfrontable asking neighbors/strangers for assistance since most of them I am sure have never even see one outside of the movies. I will make some phone call to one of the few gun shops here 0 -
That's a problem, but we'll go with what we have. Show us closeup photos, and try and do it in daylight in open shade. See the link below to determine the [photo] quality we'll need to make an accurate call. Best, Joe
