Winchester Model 50

What do you all think of the model 50? I looked at one in a local shop, 20 gauge 28" modified, couldn't believe how light it was for an auto. Any pros or cons on this model? Anything I should check for before buying one?

    I have a chance at a new/unfired Model 50 in 12 ga. Serial number range suggests in was made in 1955? It is marked "Pigeon" on the bottom of the receiver. Wood is outstanding!! It has a extra barrel that was ordered with it--Invoice is with gun. One has a Cutts installed and the other is a full choke 30".

    My questions: Doesn't this grade usually have engraving? This one has none??

    I would appreciate someone offering a value range as I have described it. Sorry, do not have pictures and I know that would make it easier!! Sorry.

    I don't know about the price of a new one, I have picked up several used/good condition for $250.00 over the last year. I think $750 sounds good.

    750 for a pigeon grade Model 50 sounds good. Bobski is the guy you need to hear from. His knowledge of the model 50 is vast.

    M50 pigeon grades did not have to be engraved. Bolt and carrier should be jeweled and the wood should have either pigeon grade checkering pattern or A or B carved wood.

    I have a copy of a 1961 Winchester and Westerner Sporting Arms and Ammunition catalog. The "Model 50 Field" sold for $134.95. The Model 50 Pigeon Grade stated "from $234.15". It stated "In additon, your Model 50 Pigeon Grade shotgun can be built with any combination of choke and barrel length available in the Model 50 line, and with stock dimensions to your indiviual specifications, within manufacturing limits (Monte Carlo, cheek piece or offset available at extra charge). Describing the quality it says...the finest hand checkering...breech bolt and carrier are engine tunned.

    In the 2008 Standard Catalog of Firearms, page 1377, it says, "Pigeon Grade, 12 or 20 gauge with barrel lengths to customers' specification. Fancy walnut checkered stock and forend. Made on special orders only.
