fed ord m14

Semi auto version of the m14sa. Receiver is marked fed ord. m14sa the guy tells me most parts are marked trw. he claims it will keep it in the 10 ring. what kinda price is this worth. If pics are needed he's sending them to me tonight sometime so i will post tomarrow.

    They are a premium gun so off the top of my head I would say $2000 min maybe $2500-3000, but I am not sure.



    EDIT: Well after the other post it sounds like I am wrong. I though they were a premium gun.

    I would do a whole lot of research on-line before springing big bucks for any Fed Ord product. Unless this guy is giving you some kind of a screaming BIL deal, remain skeptical. Their stuff never had the greatest rep for quality and workmanship. My 2?.

    well if this helps the serial number is in the 60,000 mark some were very close the that with in 100 or so. Just dont want a dude in a rifle. Guy wants to trade for the rifle i have up for sale.

    At one time I owned a Fed Ord M14, & I don't share rufe-snow's high opinion of them. All Fed Ord receivers are poor quality castings; when you consider that this is a high power rifle producing > 50,000 cup chamber pressure, & you will be firing it 2" in front of your face, you have to ask yourself, "Do I feel lucky?", every time you shoot it.

    Only the early Fed Ord's were built with USGI parts, while most have POS Chicom parts. If you want to buy it for the parts kit, the price should reflect that.

    i would do a complete tear down and see about the parts if they are GI..600000 would put in chicom parts..they had a rap about bad specs in the locking lug areas...i would trust my polytech M14 over the federal ord rifle, the poly had forged steel reciver,,,gun is worth 800-1200 depending on if all USGI parts or if built with chicom parts kit..when they were built there was not alot of US parts on the market even springfield at that time was useing commercial made parts due to USGI parts shortage..it is not considered a premium M14 type rifle 2000.00 please[8]

    I don't think the receivers were cast. But even if they were, Ruger has been casting it's receivers for years and you never hear of one failing.

    If the parts are marked TRW then they are US surplus. SA used these same parts for years until they were finally used up.

    Federal Ordinance is a step up from the Chinese M-14's but definitely a step down from Springfield Armory M1A's.

    The receivers were cast.
    There is no way one is worth $2000.
    If it has all TRW parts then it is worth about $1200- 1400.
    After about ser # 9000 they started using Chinese parts.

    I have Fed. Ord. s/n 43xx, it has all USGI H&R parts, barrel is dated 9/62. It is my understanding that, at the time these early pieces were put together (early 1980s?), one USGI rifle was disassembled from USGI receiver and all the parts from that one rifle were then installed on a Fed. Ord. receiver??? Anybody have any info on this claim? It is an excellent shooter, and accuracy is mil. spec. It is marked M14A. The receiver is machined at least as well as any Imbel or Armscorp receiver that I have ever seen on a Springfield Armory INC. M1A. I've not seen many of the Fed. Ord. rifles in the market place.

    Receiver quality was spotty, even getting the rear sight holes properly lined up so that the sight base installs straight, was an issue in some of the FedOrd receivers. Nothing makes for poor accuracy like having the rear sight sitting in the rifle at an angle. If it indeed has all TRW parts and the price is right I'd buy it, use the parts on another M1A type receiver and then sell the FedOrd receiver.
