value of pre64 winchester
Hello i lost(got robbed) a 1962 model 70 wincehster in a 243 caliber stock was perfect. as was blueing and only wear was on the bolt head. had been shot less than 100 rounds. it was wht standard version with the hooded front sight. so im looking for an appraisal as the insurenace company says its worth 800 dollars. I think its worth much more but do not know where to go look since the gun is now gone. as is 7 others,,,, any help where i can get info or a estimated appraisal to submitt to insurance would be great.

Without pictures or a prior documented appraisal it is only your word as to condition. $800 is probably not a bad offer where condition cannot be verified. 0 -
When my son was robbed his insurance carrier accepted printouts from GunBroker and {elsewhere} of similar, sold guns as comparative values.
I would look on Gunbroker ended auctions for one as close as you can find to yours and see what it sold for.

I believe, that unless you have your firearms collections specifically insured, with a policy rider, that any insurance company will only insure the whole collection for around $1000.00 dollars. I have several that would not cover the stock OR the scope on.
We need pictures to see what your rifle is worth.

Well i got some good news. I have replacement cost on my policy. for as much as i have for content. after getting them exact info of models and serials they re-looked at it and decided today that the rugger was worth 689 msrp from rugers web site, and the model 70 Winchester was appraised at 1394 so they are going to give me that. I'm glad for all this but would still rather have my old Winchester back.,.... it was my favorite rifle.
thanks to lcdrdanr for the search for past sales on gun broker . actually found my gun on there. well an exact item and i sent her the link to look at it and she is ok with paying me this. so thank you lcdrdanr for you suggestion.0 -
That is great news, about the insurance. I have been in your shoes before...not with guns, but other things, and always wished I had my old favorate back, and that I could catch the idiots who stole it.

Bought a safe when my agent told me guns were covered up to $3000 minus the deductible. A rather expensive rider would cover them for more. Don't have a lot of guns or any with real collectible value but $3000 would not go far replacing the few I have. I like the safe, fits the decor (per wife), kids can't get in, fireproof, and heavy. It took 4 men to get it in the house empty!0
