.480 Ruger Super Redhawk

Does anyone have experience with both the .44 mag, and the .480 Ruger as far as recoil is felt? To me the .44 is fine, but the .454 Casull is brutal!!!!! Comments please. THX HAWKSHAW

    I'm interested in this comparison also. I took a Super Redhawk .454 in on a trade but decided I don't want to shoot it. I just had both hands operated on last winter and don't want to butch them up with recoil. I've been looking at the .480 as an alternative if I can use it w/o hand problems.

    Mobuck - I have the .454 in a Freedom Arms 83. It shoots great, recoil is not all that bad. I shot a friend's Ruger and it was hard, real hard to shoot. I think it has to do with the design of the guns more than the round. If you have had your hand operated on recently, then I would not shoot either until it heals sufficienlty. A gun that can shoot a .454 Casull can also shoot the .45 LC. The .45 LC is a pleasure to shoot out of a Freedom Arms 83, and probably a Ruger too.

    Hawkshaw - Get a Freedom Arms 83 that fires the .475 Linebaugh, it will also shoot the .480 Ruger. Don't get the Ruger.

    Thanks. I've considered splitting the difference and using some of the hot 45 Colt loads. I really want to use the Ruger on deer but may just pass on that this year and work up to it for next season. Right now I'm shooting full load .357 mag w/o any problems but haven't shot any 44 mag just 44spec.

    i find the 480 too be was less felt recoil then the 44 mag or 45 casull. more of a push then the quick snap. now the 460 s&w is a different then them all. Kevin
