Buy from a seller with no feedback

Would you spend over a 1000 with a new seller that has no feedback? There is an item I have been looking for at a good(not dirt cheap) price my only hang up is the NR. How could a guy protect himself on such a deal?

    Everyone has to start somewhere and with the economy in the shape that it is right now there are lots of first time sellers out there looking to make mortgage money by selling some of their guns.

    E-mail him and ask for his name address and phone number and verify it through the various address searches. Ask if he has any feedback on any other website such as eBay. If he's an FFL, ask for his number and verify it through ATF's EZ-check system. If he isn't, ask who his shipping dealer is and call them for a reference. New sellers should understand your concerns and if he refuses, walk away.

    I do what Spider does.

    Plus, I may verify his address & phone number with an Internet directory, such as www.anywho.com . Also, some states have a real property tax data base that will show how long he has owned his house. If all else fails, I have asked for a photocopy of his drivers license.

    Not exactly on point, but if you do get "took", here is a couple thoughts. Gun Broker is processing my case, the FBI has a website ic3.gov where I made my formal complaint - which in time may be effective. I called FBI in 'perps' city, told him I had case pending with ic3.gov, he took my basic info and said he would look into it with local police. Called back later for fuller info. I think he is trying to get a leg up on the case when FBI HQ sends him my complaint.

    My local police were confused by how to handle internet fraud and police in 'perps' city said I should have my local police forward my complaint to them --- then suggested I talk to FBI there - which seems to have put the show on the road. Hope this helps.

    EDIT FBI agent at 'perps' called to say he had interviewed the woman at the address who turned out to be a 'mule'. She had cashed the MOs and forwarded the money to Nigeria. He said not much of a criminal case possible against her but he apprized her of what she was doing and would be in
    trouble if she repeated it.
