I now understand this point. I was incorrectly using the term Ogive to strictly refer to the point where the taper of the bullet intersected the bearing surface of the bullet

I tried to size the two images to be the same diameter (width) so that the difference in height was correct or as close as I can get it this late at night. [:D]
Now, if we look at the that intersection of the ogive and the shank diameter, we get this:


Note the difference in length...
Then note the difference in the shape of the Ogive...
This is the best I can do without some sleep and a fresh look tomorrow. Mull this over and let's try it again in the morning.

Now let me ask you another question...the variation I'm seeing must be due to the die using a smaller diameter than the actual comparator diameter...and thus the shape of the bullet between those two points is giving me my variance in seating depth.?.?
I was told by a RCBS tech that their dies seated of the Ogive (as I understood the term) and if that were the case, I could not understand why I was getting a variation...but if their dies seat off a smaller diameter than my comparator, I can now see where the variance is coming from.
