Post pictures, make sure the action and stock are clear and well defined.

If that's the serial number then it looks like it was made in 1939. Several good (as in close up and not blurry) pictures is about the only way to get these people to tell you what they think it's worth.

If you can post pics, add them to your original post. Only 10 posts are allowed per thread in this forum so don't take up your own space if you can help it.

According to Ned Schwing's Winchester Pocket Guide, a pre-war Model 70 Standard Rifle, chambered in 30/06,in "excellent" condition is worth 2000 dollars, "very good" condition, 1500 dollars, "good" condition, 750 dollars.

how close it remains to the condition it left Winchester in 1939'is what determines the value. from what i see in pics it still has the original finish on wood and metal , the butt pad was added on later without altering the stock. model 70 Winchester's are very collectible and your granddad left you a treasure

I am going to try and post better pictures. Yes this is a model 70. The manufacture year is determined by the 5 digit number? Hope these are bigger than thumbnails.

Oh Yeah. Looks like a sweet one. I'd take that old recoil pad off and find an original butt plate. JMO

The Pre-war models command a premium and that is a nice gun, unfortunatly the butt was probably cut as the original plate had a widows peak at the top. also the rear bridge was drilled for a scope. Its hard to find one that has'nt been. If you have the original rear sight and front sight globe that would add to its value, but will not make up the value lost on the drilling and cutting.
