Anyone Know about an Engraver out of Guilford Connecticut in the 70's Last name Alpen. Thanks

  How did Winchester engraver Jasper Salerno sign his work? I am interested in the "A" of his last name.

  You are probably refering to the way he did his middle initial A. Jasper belonged to the Masons. He would incorporate the Masonic symbol into his middle initial.

  Yes, but I thought his middle initial was "L". Its the "A" in his last name. When superimposed its not just a Masonic symble it also creates a "W".

  Jasper used two middle names. I have several smoke prints of his signatures. He signed some guns J L Salerno, JLS, J Salerno {with A in Salerno incorporated masonically}, And JAS with A incorporated masonically. I am not sure what you mean by a W. The compass and square in the masonic symbol could resemble an M though.

  Let me add to my last comment. I suppose if he put the compass in the masonic symbol closer to the square it could look like a W. At any rate i'm glad you brought his name up. No one seems to mention him much but he did work for the Custom Shop from 1968 until 1977 and did an awful lot of guns including many for John Olin.
