Boresighter

Hey all,

Im wanting to get a laser boresighter for a buddy for christmas, any advice on a cheaper yet good quality laser boresight.

    I am currently in the market for a boresighter for occasional use and am wondering what you would consider the best choice. Which are best...the mechanical or laser borsighters? I would like to use it to boresight an in-line muzzleloader (.50 cal) and ultimately see other possibilities as I upgrade optics on various other rifles.

    I prefer a collimator set over the laser boresighter esp. if you have more than one caliber.

    I have a couple of sets with 15 or so arbors each. If this is something your considering, checkout the Sportsmansguide.

    Do those sets work with any type of scope elevation position and are universal?

    Be sure you take a look at the Leupold Zero Point bore sigher. I would consider it a very fine gift.

    I have a Laserlyte bore sighter. Cost around $50. I am very satisfied with mine, however when adjusting my scopes in daylight, it is very difficult to see the dot. They give you a small target which will absorb the light, but it is difficult to hit the target with the beam at > 50 yards.
    What I do to alleviate this problem was sight a target just after sundown when you can see the dot from > than 200 yards and still see the crosshairs in your scope. Puts me in the black everytime when I go to the range the next day. I think they pay for themselves with saved ammo during the sighting in process.

    I use one of these on every thing from .22 LR to .50 BMG.

    Flash-hiders and muzzle brakes can have a negative effect. Every rifle I have has been within 5 or 6 inches at 100 yards after setting the scope or holographic sight with it, with the exception of one of the .50s which was more than 6" off at 50 yards due to the interference of the brake.

    I have one of these but it was made by Bushnell. It does not work on high mounted scopes unless you use an adapter to raise it up. Pretty much useless on most AR type rifles. It also requires to many arbors. The one I have uses only 4 arbors including 12 gauge.

    I would go with one of these to replace the Bushnell if I needed to but I might just pick one up any way as they are magnetic no arbors needed. I think this would be the way to go. You don't want to skimp on quality with a scope why would you skimp on quality to bore sight that scope.
