scope for K31
Hi all I just put the S&K scope mount on my K31 just wondering what kind of scopes others have used on the S&K scout scope mount thanks

I have looked at the Burris it is nice real nice it is more $$$ than the k31 and the s&k mount together I know you get what you pay for if I want a good scope I should just come off the cash I was just hoping some one new of a good scope that was not so much $$$ thanks 0 -
Since my rifle was made in the early 50's, I wanted to go with a scope of that period. I got on Ebay and found an old Weaver K10, El Paso steel scope for a very reasonable price. I regularly shoot 1" groups at 200 yards with my gun and reloads. That's just my personal preference to match guns and scopes of the same time period. 0 -

I know it seems expensive compared to the K-31 but let me tell you, you got a lot better shooter in that rifle than what you paid for!
There are also clamp on type scopes for that rifle that hold nearly any conventional scope you want to mount. that is honestly the route I would take.

I agree, I paid $97 and $125 for each of mine shipped to me. Both shoot sub-MOA @ 100...with open sights! the way they have them configured and cut is amazing to shoot. And the bullet goes right where you put it. I've never attached a scope to mine but guys on our range have. Both the clamp type and drill and tap[xx(] (It's a ruin of a fine rifle) And accuracy is impeccable. Same sub-MOA @ 300 yds.0 -
is a scout scope the same thing as a pistol scope will the pistol scope hold up to the K31s recoil 0 -

In answer to your question, a "scout" scope just refers to a forward mounted scope with long eye relief. There are some scopes for this application designed specifically for rifles (they are going to be called "scout" or "long eye relief" scopes). Most shooters use pistol scopes for this application instead. These WILL hold up, so long as you use a quality make (eg Burris, Leupold, Nikon, etc).
Just this past week, I stuck a Leupold 2x pistol scope on my Mosin M44 carbine with an S&K mount and the dedicated S&K-type rings.
Paid a little over $100 for the scope. Paid around $80 for the mount. That means I literally paid twice as much for the scope and mount as I did for the actual rifle, and I'm perfectly fine with that. I don't consider $180 for a solid quality scope setup to be very much at all. I was lucky enough to have found the scope relatively cheaply on an auction site (apparently 2x scopes aren't all that popular), but I'd have been willing to pay more.
The last thing you want to do is skimp on a scope or mount. The cheap scopes and mounts generally won't hold a zero, and after they FAIL, you're going to have to replace them with quality optics anyway. Might as well just spend the money ONCE and get the good scope up front, saving time, cost, and aggravation.
In terms of result. . .I was very pleased. . .for the first six shots before the damn thing shook loose!
After much swearing, I disassembled everything, then reassembled the mount and rings with blue Loctite on all the screws. 100 shots later, its still zeroed, so I guess that solved the problem.
Other tip, for a "scout" type mount, I really don't think you want to go with a high-magnification scope. The problem is that the long eye-relief scopes tend to give you narrow fields of view, and the higher the power magnification, the worse this problem.
I'm perfectly fine with a 2x. It gives me a reasonably wide field, and the ability to aim quickly (which is the main advantage of a scout system).
I think if you really need fine precision, you're probably best off with a conventional rear scope mount, rather than a "scout" system.0 -

I have to piggy-back on TWalker's reply. The K31 is absolutely the most accurate military rifle I have ever owned. And, I have owned just about everything out there. Until I acquired my first K31, my Springfield 1903 A3 (bought wrapped in cosmoline)and my Swedish M96 were my favorites. Both shoot under an 1" at 100 yards. The K31 beats them consistantly. I have a 200 yard target posted on the wall of my Man-Cave that has 5 shots into less than a 1/2", with the K31. Needless to say, I have acquired 2 more K31 when they came along. Why would a guy want three K31's? Because they give me a friggin hard-on when I shoot out the X ring at any distance ! 0
