Rem model 722 .257 Roberts with Weaver 4X Scope

I bought this rifle in 2003 for 250.00 and it is in really nice condition. My question for all the 'ole Bob fans' is Did the Model 722 sell new with the Weaver 4X scope? I know the orginal owner but he's not able to answer because of his medical condition. I talked to him about the rifle before his condition worsened and I know he bought the rifle and scope at the same time but I don't remember him saying if they came together. I'm looking at possibly selling the rifle and if the scope came with it then I think I'd keep them together. The scope is good and clear. I used it at first but replaced it with a Nikon. This is the "Plain Jane" model.

    I don't think they were selling "package guns" in those days. He may well have bought rifle and scope at the same time but I doubt it came out of Remington already set up.

    You will never find another 257 Bob like that one if you sell it. At least not for the price you paid for it. It is a good rifle for young and recoil sensative shooters as well....something to think about.

    I bought my 722 257r in 1954. It did not come with the scope. Still a great gun.

    My grandfather left me his 722 in .257 about 10 years ago. Love the gun, hate the cheap Tasco scope he put on it when the old Weaver was damaged. (it has Stith mounts and a Stith block through the rear sight dovetail)

    Some day I'll re-scope it with something worthy.

    Riomouse it would be easy enough to replace it with a period Weaver scope for under $100.

    Man, don't sell that 722! The 700 is probably the only better rifle.

    I don't want to sell, but between this and a ole Ruger 44mag carbine I may have to part with one, or worse, both. They are my only two firearms I am willing to part with if it comes down to it. A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do.....

    It's also a good gun to go shooting @ 1k with using Berger 115 VLD's.[;)][:D]

    Also, to answer your question, No. They didn't come with scopes back then. In fact that was about the time that rifle manufacturers finally figured out they should drill and tap their rifles so that you could put a scope on there. It wasn't until the 50's that drilling and tapping became the norm rather than the custom request.
