twist rate in a 308

i know in 223 a 1.9 twist barrel should hnle bullets around 55gr best. what pills will a rifle chambered in 308 with a 1/10 barrel handle best? if your want heavier bullets you still need a faster twist correct?

  With a 1-10, your 308 should handle everything up to 220gr, how much heavier do you want to go?
  The downside to heavy bullets in the 308 isn't the twist rate, but the volume of the case. Most people stop in the 165-180gr range due to this.

  Every bullet maker and every barrel maker usually has a list of bullets and twist rates. This one happens to be from Shilen, the barrel maker:
  
  .308
  - 8" for bullets heavier than 220gr.
  - 10" for bullets up to 220gr.
  - 12" for bullets up to 170gr.
  - 13"* Ratchet rifled 4 groove
  - 14"* for bullets up to 168gr.
  - 15"* for bullets up to 150gr.
  - 17"* for bullets up to 125 gr.

  It's important to remember that it isn't the bullet weight that determines the twist rate but the length of the bullet. So when folks tell you that a particular weight will work with a particular twist, there exists a possibility that some of those bullet weights won't due to additional length from a plastic tip, mono-metallic production or a VLD shape.
  
  The 1:9" twist in a .223 barrel should handle up to the 60 grain bullets.
