AR-15 Magazine Issue
Hey guy's I'm having a bit of an issue with my AR and it just started as of today. If I have the bolt closed and try to insert a full 30 round magazine it just slides right out. Now if I have the bolt open and insert the same magazine it locks in totally fine and once I close the bolt it remains in nice and firm. Now If I take an empty mag with a closed bolt it locks in just fine. It's strange because up until yesterday I had a loaded mag (Not chambered) in to give an idea of a loaded weight for a friend who was curious about loaded weight and I didn't have any issues.I've tried taking a few rounds out of the magazine to see if that made any difference and it didn't. I'm wondering if keeping a loaded mag in maybe over did it for the spring in there? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Probably just no man handleing it enough, push em in harder, not slam..
you could try pressing the mag release while pushing sharply up on the mag, then stop pressing on the mag release while still maintaining upward pressure on the mag.
It should lock in place, when you stop pressing on the release button.
As loredo says, just load 28, it does help. When i think of a full 30 round AR mag, it is holding 28 or 27 rounds.0 -
Most AR owners I know load the 30rd mags with 28 or 29 rds to make loading with the bolt forward easier. Keeping AR mags loaded to capacity for extended periods should not harm the springs. I have kept mags loaded for months with no problems. 0 -
I'm slamming it in there as hard as I can and it doesn't want to stick, I'm going to pull it apart and make sure the spring is still good. I barely have to apply any pressure to get them in with the open bolt. As long as I can get them to stick in there while i'm shooting i'll be happy. 0 -
When you take apart the mag to check the spring, hold the body up next to another mag and compare the feed lips. If the feed lips get bent it can interfere with seating in the mag well. 0 -
Take 2 rounds out of the mag. 0 -

The capacity of a 30 round magazine is 28 rounds.
The capacity of a 20 round magazine is 18 rounds.

At this point I've tried 4 different mags and they all seem to do it. I've taken out several rounds from the magazines to see if that made any difference and it didn't seem to help. Right now i'm using the C-Product 30 round Stainless steel magazines.0 -
I would venture to guess that the magazine catch hole in the C Products mags you have are really tight on their specs or may be off a few thousandths of an inch. Do you have any other Brand of magazines you can try?
It possibly might be that using a Stainless Steel magazine with the Aluminum magazine catch might cause the catch to wear (especially if it is tight or off like stated above). If you wear through the hard coating on the aluminum it will wear quicker. You might pull out the magazine catch and check it for wear.0 -

I have a bunch of them, c products SS 30 rnd mags, and I have function tested them all in most of my guns that use AR mags, and they all work.. It is just harder to get them to lock up.
when the bolt is locked back they work fine?
