gun refinishing / importers marks

does anyone know if it is legal to remove the importers mark (name and address) when you reblue/parkerize a gun

  You can remove any thing except the serial number

  Polish away, those markings mean nothing once the gun is inside the USA.

  Though significantly altering the gun from its original configuration might invalidate the C&R status.
