35 REM. OR .30-30 WHICH DO YOU PREFER?

I've read some articles where it's stated the 35 Remington is to be preferred over the older .30-30. I dunno.....what do you think?[}:)]

  I like them both perfer the 35 rem 30-30 is easier to get ammo

  I have, and like, both, but prefer the .35 Remington. The .35 always seemed to have an effectiveness better than its ballistics might indicate, at least at woods ranges. The new Hornady LeveRevolution ammo puts the old reliable .35 into a slightly higher power class, with about 10% more muzzle velocity at the same 200 gr. bullet weight (in the longer 24" barrel like my old 336 ADL has), with a bullet shape that retains that velocity and energy far better than the old round-nosed bullet, and a flatter trajectory to boot. And, my individual rifle loves the new ammo and shoots it very accurately.

  For what use? I had a .35 Remington, never got much accuracy out of it. Probably the gun, not the cartridge. Never had a .30-30.
  
  They both have readily available components for reloading if you include .357 pistol bullets. Otherwise I'd give a slight preference to a 30-30 just due to ammo availability.
  
  In practice, for hunting deer, both are just fine at ranges you are likely to engage at- say 100 yards or less. The .35 is probably more flexible but it's extra power isn't that much more- it might make me a bit more confident in using on black bear but I'd still want a .308 Winchester or larger for that in an ideal world. In short the extra power moves the .35 up into a slightly higher bracket, but one with few useful applications. Just my opinion.

  Both are popular in the Northeast. I like the .35 Remington for the heavier bullet.

  Oh heck yeah, the 35 Remington ! And the bonus if you are a reloader is that you can use .357 diameter pistol bullets. Load it down to be a plinker or load it up to be a bad boy. Of course, if you are loading it real hot, stick with rifle bullets. Their jackets are thicker and will stay together better than the thinner pistol bullet jacket.

  If you haven't bought a rifle yet check out the Rem. model 141 . They are fairly easy to come by at a good price and they have a 24" barrel , which really helps out the .35 Rem., you can also use pointed bullets which is a good thing ! Turns the old .35 into a legitimite 200 Yd . Rifle !

  The 35 Remington with a 250 gr round nose is my favorite 150yd brush loads. The 35 Rem is everthing the 30-30 wishes it was.

  I have both and up here
  in the northeast, they are great.
  forget about ballistics if you're
  a woods hunter and use what ever you
  prefer , they both knock down deer
  and I'm sure the deer can't
  tell the difference

  For woods hunting where the ranges are not over 150 yards or so, I will take the 35 Remington every time. It has far superrior power than a 30-30 on the same chassis.
