Winchester Model 12 convert 2 3/4" to 3"???

In his book, THE WINCHESTER MODEL 12, Madis states that "Winchester offered to lengthen any twelve gauge chamber to fire the 3" shell for an additional charge". He goes on to state that for a time, this was a popularly requested option.

Has anyone ever run across a Model 12 with this "option"? (not a heavy duck).

I would assume that Winchester would have marked the barrel 3" and the ejection port would be longer.

Would it be possible to just re-chamber the barrel and lengthen the ejection port on a 2 _" gun to. Fire 3" shells?

  "Popularly requested"[?]... doubtful. Did it happen occasionally... Yes. I have not personally seen one... yet. Yes, Winchester would have remarked the gun to indicate the new 3" chamber.
  
  I am not a gunsmith, but I can see no reason why a 2-3/4" gun can not be opened up for a 3" shell.

  Dumb question but would not the bolt have to travel an additional 1/4 inch to eject the empty? What changes would be involved?

  No, the bolt does not need to travel any farther than normal. What Winchester did, was open up the front end of the ejection port on the receiver, as well as lengthening the chamber.

  L believe they also used a different ejector.

  This must be a replacement barrel and a reworked reciever as the factory 3" chambered barrels did not come out til the 30s.
