RwE mauser
Hello,
I have a couple small ring Mauser 98's, possibly commercial, or military conversions. One is 7x57, the other is 8x57. They are both marked "RwE" on the left receiver wall. Both are similar style, schnabel fore end, rouded grip cap, and lightly engraved. I have also seen several others like this on GB and other auction boards. My question is, who is or was "RwE"? I've attached a picture of one of the rifles, along with a photo of the receiver.

I have no idea if this is what you are looking for, but I found a reference to "Rhenish-Westphalian Explosive" company that made powder and ammunition. http://www.cornellpubs.com/old-guns/item_desc.php?item_id=623
Maybe they also built some mauser actions at one time?0 -
"Rhenish-Westphalian Explosive" is interesting, but I can't find anything to show they were ever involved in producing sporter mausers. Maybe somebody else's google-fu is better, but I came up with nothing. 0
