want to contact california class 3 ffl

I'd like to find a class 3 FFL in california that knows the state regs well and could help my trust acquire an aow. please contact me or post here if you know of one or even better where I may find a list.

    You can contact the CA Department of Justice and ask for the location of CA firearms dealers who is licensed and holds a CA Dangerous Weapons permit. I am going to tell you up front that one of the conditions of holding such a permit in this state is that sales cannot be made to other than law enforcement and government agencies.

    How then does an individual aquire an aow in california if non of the dealers in california can sell to individuals? Is my understanding as to it being legal to own an aow in california totaly wrong, or does the state just make it practically impossible to acquire an aow with it being legal to own?

    Basically you cannot own Title II weapons in CA such as machine guns and AOWs. In addition to a prohibition on dealers selling to private individuals, an individual would need a dangerous weapons permit issued by the DOJ and renewed yearly. To qualify for such a permit you must show good cause to own a Dangerous Weapon...Good cause is nothing that you'll be able to come up with! Even though there is a mechanism in the regulations that provides for these permits, they are never issued to private individuals so if a dealer were actually allowed to sell the weapon, you would have to show him a permit...A permit which will not be issued to you. What specifically do you want to buy?

    Mark has it covered. If you live in CA and want an AOW, move out of CA, its the only way to own one. Unless you want to become a class 3 dealer, have a business that you can show is viable, etc etc etc.

    Yes! CA is dumb and controlled by the Democrats...what they have done to CA they are trying to do at the Federal level.

    I think that I must have scared the poor guy away. There has been no follow up. These restrictions have been in effect for decades and are nothing recent. People see the word permit and figure that all they have to do is get the permit and they are all set. I ain't that easy!

    Sure it is... of course, the hard part (in Cali's case) is getting the permit. But once you have it, it is easy :)

    Would really like to buy a super shorty (and maybe a few more title II arms)
    Prescott or flagstaff is looking nicer by the minute.

    Glad to see you back. I think that you'll find the traps and pitfalls for Title II firearms here in CA cannot be overcome by mortal men. They were designed to be impossible and prove to be. If you want to try the Prescott-Flagstaff route, keep in mind that you are not going anywhere until you get a Form 4 signed off by the local chief of police/sheriff and he won't sign unless you are a resident of the locality where he is the head honcho. Even if you somehow get past the chief and get an approved Form 4 you'll still need to sign the 4473 when you pick up the AOW from your dealer and you'll have to prove that you are a resident of Arizona. That may or may not be possible, depending on your circumstances. I can see jumping through a hundred hoops to get my hands on something like a $20K 1921 Colt-Thompson sub machine gun, but not a $500 Mossberg AOW. Let us know how it works out for you with Arizona.

    Rather than a trust, you might look into forming a corporation, which won't do you any good here in CA, but should work in a different state if you incorporate there.
