s&w 1896 32 long

i have my grandfathers old s&w 32 long..nickel plated with what i believe are walnut grips...serial no. 297608..i am trying to find out a little bit more about this gun..it is in very good shape with very little wear on the finish..bore is in great shape....can anyone help with the manuf date and possible worth?..it is a hand ejector
