Self defense ammo
Can anybody reccommend a self defense ammo that will feed properly through my Kel-Tec .380?

Would like an opinion on how the FTX and Hydrashocks compare as the best round in .380 or 9mm for CCW. Thanks 0 -

I always used Hydrashocks in my 380s. Worked every time. Did not have a Kel-Tec though. 0 -
I use Corbon PoweRball in ALL my carry guns.
It is shaped like FMJ to IMPROVE feeding, you still need to test with YOUR gun to make sure it works. It has ballistics like quality HP ammo.
I do carry a Kel-Tec 3AT.0 -
The best, and perhaps to only way to be sure the ammunition you want to use will feed reliably through your gun, is to test fire the ammunition in your gun.
No two guns are exactly the same and you may find you need to polish your feed ramp, etc..... for 100% reliablility.
The suggestions are good starting points, but there's no guarantee your gun will be 100% reliable with them.0 -
+1 for Federal Hydra-Shoks. They have fed fine through two Kel-Tec .380's. They have fed through every gun and caliber that I have tried.
I would reccomend like already stated to make sure that they run through yours 100% before you carry them.0 -
Three points:
a. Kel Tecs are notorious for needing a good "break in" period. Your gun may not cycle ANYTHING reliably until a few hundred rounds have passed through it.
Unfortunately, with today's scarcity and high cost of .380 ammo, that's a real potential problem.
b. Some authorities recommend ordinary ball ammo for defensive use in .380s for increased penetration from what is otherwise a fairly marginal round. I can't comment on this more than to say that its plausible, and that you don't absolutely HAVE to carry super-premium ammo (especially if you can't find any, or it isn't reliable!).
c. I have Federal hydroshoks in mine, and they seem to cycle fine. In practice, I don't trust the Kel-Tec's reliability with ANY ammo, but given the choice between one-good-shot-and-maybe-more and no-gun-whatsoever, I'll take the former.0 -
Take a look at this link. May help with your choice.

Yeah, I was planning on doing some research at the range to verify. I just don't want to waste my time and money on a round that somebody knows for a fact won't work.
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.
