If you remove the BOSS, expect your accuracy to change- for the worse.

The BOSS can easily be removed and you can buy a sleeve to screw on the barrel in its place. Check Brownells--I think I have seen them in their catalog. I have one on a Model 70 Classic .30-06. (BTW, does anybody know where I can find parts for this rifle?) It is very accurate and has mild recoil, but the noise level is absolutely horrible. After practicing with a good David Clark hearing protector, I took a shot at an elk. I am very glad I didn't have to shoot twice! My ears rang for 3 days afterward.

Browning, Winchester's sister division has a device called the BOSS CR, which is similar to the BOSS break, but without the ports. You will get the conventional recoil, without all the blast from the break, and still be able to dial in a sweet spot.

In my experience this may or may not be true. Only one way to find out.
Take off the Boss, check your accuracy. Put it back on if unacceptable, cap it if it's o.k. There's a lot of Non-Bossed barrels out there producing some really fine accuracy.

I'd also play with the settings - the boss should allow smaller groups (maybe not by much since you are at 200 yards).

I'll check Brownells for the cap. I like the concept of dialing in the rifle but I wish they hadn't made the BOSS so damn ugly. And yes it is extremely loud. Oh, I rechecked my target and that was 1 1/2 in. group at 250 yds. thanks

    Federal Power-Shok 140 gr. soft point. 280cs
1 1/2 in. group 2 in. low at 250 yds. Deadly on deer and cheap to boot.
