Dug thru My "American Gun Makers" by Satterlee & Gluckman and can find No Referance to a Fort Pitt Shotgun...I'm inclined to think that Fort Pitt is a Belguim Made Shotgun...Is there an Oval with the Letters E over LG in the center? under the Barrels or on the Water Table? Also am wondering if this gun is a Percussion Shotgun or a Hammer Gun? Is It Hammerless? Can You give us a complete and total Discription of Said Gun?....Best.... 0 -
If it's marked "Fort Pitt Arms Company" it was made by Crescent Fire Arms Co. 0 -
As MP says, it's a "Trade Brand Name" shotgun. A "Trade Brand Name" shotgun is one made by a major maker for and sold by a wholesaler or retailer who chose the name to go on the gun. The name Fort Pitt Arms Co was used on shotguns made by the Crescent Fire Arms Co of Norwich,CT (1892 to 1932) for and sold by the H & D Folsome Company of New York City a large wholesaler and retailer of sporting goods. The guns were actucally made in Norwich,CT some time between 1810 and 1925. Incidentally H & D Folsome owned Crescent Fire Arms Co and whatever Folsome wanted, Crescent made. And what they wanted was a lot of inexpensive (read cheap) shotguns fast. 0
