SN 6865
Cal - Unknown and not indicated - similar to .38 Spcl in size.
Breech loader - 1 round per loading
Hammer strikes back of breech plate to fire
Octagonal barrel

I'm looking for some help on value and history of this model...

    In 1888 E. Remington & Sons became the Remington Arms Company, so that will at least give you a time frame to work with. I don't recognize the patent date so can't help you much for now.

    I believe you have a Remington #2 Rolling Block rifle.
    Condition is all important so you need to post good quality pictures for any assessment.
    Also, look for caliber markings on the barrel near the receiver.
