making a rear sight slot blank
I have a Heym barrelled action. Has a flip up rear sight. Looks like the kind on a 10/22. I want to remove this sight and fill the slot with a blank. But the slot is about 5/8". Can't find a slot blank that size anywhere, yet. So thinking of making one. Any advice?

Not much to using a file. but getting the angle right as the slot has a slight dove tail, will require some skill. Thanks for the feed back guys. I'll call Brownell's tomorrow.0 -
I've always made a rear sight
blank out of Oak, looks pretty
good(imho) ,doesn't hurt the weapon
and it is easily removeable.I put
a dab of varnish to make it
weather tite and fill any small
crack that would allow water in
the dovetail. I guess I'm

Take rong's advice one step further by using brass. If you're patient, you can get a professional-looking flush fit.
Don't forget to spray laquer over the finished work, so as to let it seep into the cracks, and wipe off excess. Best, Joe0 -
