  Pictures always help but they are not absolutely necessary if you can provide a complete description. Caliber, barrel length, barrel configuration (round, octagon, round and octagon), number of shots (5 or 6), markings on barrel, markings on side of frame, cylinder type (fluted, rebated, engraving?).
  
  You gave the date of 1850. There is no 1850 Colt, however, the Model 1860 Army and I believe the 1862 Police carried the September 10, 1850 patent date on the cylinder for the locking notches, so that might be a clue.
  
  They don't charge by the word here, so how about a description? [:)]
  
  EDIT: With your additional information it's a Model 1860 Army revolver. Probably original because the 2nd Generation Colt Armies began at serial number (approximately) 201,000 and the foreign repros don't normally have the sn in all the correct locations. Plus I don't think the Italian repros carry the detail of the 1850 patent date on the cylinder like the original Colts. By the sn yours was made in 1862, and the majority of war time Armies were purchased by the US Government.
