Be aware that guns considered to be antiques in the US are not necessarily considered to be antiques in other countries.

A private individual may not ship handguns via USPS, I think you got that already. There is no BATF requirement that hand guns be shipped overnight, but both UPS and Fed-X internal regs require that. And yes, it is danged expensive, $80 for the last one I shipped.

Shipping overseas you are well advised to use an exporter.

If someone tells you that you can ship a handgun UPS or Fedex 2-3 days delivery, ask him to provide you with a link to the part of the shipper's "tariff" that says you can.

I've read the site from GB and the ATF regs and cannot determine how one (non-FFL)ships his handgun to a gunsmith for repair. Can anyone add this bit of data? Thanks!

Oldcop- you have two ways- package it, take it to the UPS Hub, ship in Next Day Air. will cost you about $65, more or less. OR- find a dealer (holder of an 01 FFL) and pay them to ship it for you. The Dealer can use the US Mail, and you can't. If you take it to a dealer to ship, he will need a copy of the FFL of your gunsmith.
