Need a little help on a Browning A 5

Got this email from a friend wanting to know ,You know more about shot guns then I do; can you tell me what was in the hold in photo #5? It has a red arrow pointing to the hole. It's a Browning 5A made in about 1953. It's my neighbor's gun that he wants to sell along with a 1897 Winchester 30" full choke, both are 12 ga.

  When you disassembling the innards their is a pin that secures the brechblock, it has to be removed through that hole.

  Actually Rufe, the drift pin or punch goes in that side. The pin in the gun comes out on the other side.
