Free floating means it does not touch the barrel. They are mounted to the barrel nut only.

Frish is the name of the rail put out by Olympic Arms.

So what is the advantage of the free floating part?

Means a shooting sling or artificial support like bipod, sandbag, tree limb, or fence post will not apply pressure to the barrel and change the point of impact or group size.

Also, the barrel is free to 'swell' under heat, and to 'vibrate' harmonically during firing. It's all an accuracy thing, as the barrel will move as designed to do, without being bolted onto the gun. Best, Joe

Since nothing touches, pulls, or pushes on the barrel, this is supposed to contribute to increased accuracy.

Your barrel vibrates(harmonics) like a guitar string. With a free floating barrel it always plays the same note. If it's not free floating and pressure is applied at different points or in different amounts the vibration(note/cord) changes as does point of impact.

A barrel will shoot away from a rest or support.
