Can I ship to California?

I have a Ruger 10/22 magnum on Gunbroker. One of the prospective buyers asked if I ship to California. I can't think of a reason not to. Is it legal to? 9 round magazine and a hunting rifle with a scope is all it is. Thanks......TH

    The gun is entirely legal in CA, no problem there.

    If you are not an FFL all you have to do is ship to the buyer's CA FFL dealer, the buyer just needs to ensure his FFL will accept from a nonFFL. It's the buyer's responsibility to determine this and give the info to you, all you have to do is follow through on the paperwork required.

    If you are an FFL, you have to go online and use the CA CFLC then ship to the buyer's CA FFL dealer. The CFLC system is BS to be sure and shouldn't exist, but it's simple and takes 5 minutes to do.

    Might want to make sure your buyer checks with his FFL that he isn't going to charge up the wazoo for the transfer. In a CA face to face transfer the FFL can only legally charge a fixed amount but out of state transfers are a different matter--Turners Outdoors in southern CA charges $150 out of state fee which is ridiculous--I'm sure they do it because they would rather you spend the money on their gun-but they even charge that for a gun thats 50 years old.

    This is true, some receiving CA FFLs charge alot of money for a transfer and anywhere from $60.00 to $100.00 is rather routine. Turners at $150.00 is pretty stiff, I can think of one or two other places that charge the same.

    I think the seller has to tread a fine line & not get involved in what is solely the buyer's responsibility, but agree that politely asking the buyer if he's checked with his receiving FFL on paperwork and cost is a good suggestion. Last thing anyone wants is the gun sitting with the FFL on hold because the buyer doesn't want to pay $100.00 transfer fee on a $200.00 rifle.

    I usually use City Arms in Pacifica or San Jose Gun Exchange and each is about $60.00 total including DROS.

    I sure don't miss DROS fee's which were on top of the cost of the gun and tax.
