I will be turning 21 next year(Can't Wait!!!). For my 21st B-day I am going to ask for a pistol, since I will be of legal age. I would like some advise on a good one.

    My Price range is $500-600
I am kind of thinking of a .45
    I like 1911's
The one I have on my wish list now is the Springfield-Armory 1911-A1 GI .45 - it looks like the one from the early world wars.

    thanks

    I am open ti suggestions

It's a surplus Hungarian police/paramilitary pistol. With the alloy frame and fixed sights, not much of a target pistol. Buy a selection of different types of Makarov ammo, see which functions best. Use it as your carry ammo. Since it's a used surplus pistol, put at least 100 rounds through it, to make sure it's reliable.

I've owned several of these over the years. All were in like new condition. All were reasonably accurate. All handled reliably just about any of the common imported 9mm Mak ammo - but there is a caution about using the heavier 100+ grain ammo as it supposedly stresses the aluminum alloy frame. I eventually settled on one that easily shot 1 to 2" groups off hand at 25 feet, so the accuracy potential is there, you just need to practice to unleash it. I carried it as my CCW for a few years because of the size and weight and generally loaded it with CorBon 85 gr. JHP - which may be hard to find at this date. I believe CorBon dropped this loading. Magsafe and Glaser still offer their SD loads for this cartridge. Not a bad firearm and a decent concealed carry piece, IMHO!
