257 ROBERTS USING PLUS P AMMO

i recently bought a 1909 mauser converted/rebarreled to 257 roberts. most avail ammo is plus p. ammo boxes state not to be used in rifles mfgd before 1960 and not to use in converted military firearms. was curious why. if its a mauser or was, wouldnt bolt be able to handle presssure from 117 gr plus p ammo? any info would be appreciated. thanks.

  These disclaimers force the gunsmith and amateur wannabes to examine the action closely to be sure that the pressure of the cartridge will be safely contained by the action.
  
  Those types of notices are written by the lawyers and insurance companies to CTA (similar to CYA) when it comes to a lawsuit on behalf of someone that was stupid in the first place. They want to be able to disclaim any responsibility for accidents, oversights and ignorance by the general public.
  
  Your 1909 Argentine (if that's what it is...) has been used by custom gunsmiths all over the world to build the best rifles available. However, it never hurts to have a gunsmith examine it for faults or damage created during the conversion. Some amateur cobblers don't really have the skills to be fooling around with building rifles so a check by a qualified 'smith will assure you of the quality or lack thereof.
