Remington rolling block info.
I was given a RRB action without the barrel. The appearance, and patent information is identical to that on current auction # 140893222.
I. Is this a N0. 5 action?
2. Which type of extractor is shown in the photo?
3. Was this action made for the early smokeless powder cartridges?
Thanks for your help,
Phil

If the patent date on the tang is 1901 it's a #5 made for the 7 x 57 Mauser 0 -
2. It's a sliding extractor, but made to have some spring tension in it to enable it to snap into place in the extractor groove of the cartridge case when the round is chambered.
The sliding extractors in the rimmed cartridge rollers were rigid, with no "spring".
3. Yes.

The last patent date on the upper tang is March 18th, 1874.. The barrel is stamped 7MM RM
Thanks again
