Yard Sale 22 Help (Pictures)
Hello,I found this with a lot of other guns at a yard sale. This is a 22 caliber, on the side of the rifle it says B.S.A Martini-International. The top of the barrel is marked Birmingham Small Arms Co. LTD. England. There is a crown near the action and on the side of the barrel, there are also three crowns with initials underneath each crown BV. AP. NP. above F209 with .22 LR to the left.
Also on top of the barrel is marked cartridge 22 LR. I know the crowns are proof marks, no iron sights on the gun but scope mounts.
Does anyone know anything about these guns and what they might be worth?
The bore is spotless and shiny, I believe the block on the side of the gun is for some type of sight or scope. The guys father who bought the gun is in the fifties.
Any info on the gun would be very much appreciated.

Hello very popular rifle with target shooters of the day. Sort of old school by todays standard but still worth a fair amount.
Most Small Bore matches had the competition split between IRON SIGHT only and ANY SIGHT You rifle seems to be set up for BOTH in other words the front-most and rear-most blocks are for Iron sights and the 2 middle blocks are for long tube target scope like a Lyman Target Spot. the blocks were mounted on the barrel and receiver to allow you to switch back and forth. If you know the name of the owner I may be able to find out if he fired AT CAMP PERRY. national championships.0 -
I think you'll find that those arn't scope mount blocks, but iron sight bases. The people that held the sale may still have the pieces, but didn't know they went with the rifle.
Nice target rifle. Find the correct type of sights (most likely a peep) and the type of ammo it prefers and enjoy a suprubly accurate rifle.0 -
You got a nice piece there. The front block is for a globe site, and the two middle blocks are for the target scope. Rear micrometer site
screws onto top/side of action. I shot against many of this type of gun

These are very nice guns and are selling in the $400-$600 range in the NY area 0 -

According to the 1981 gun digest deluxe that is a BSA Martini ISU match rifle. 28" barrel 10 3/4 lbs 43"-44" overall length.
Stock: match type French walnut butt and fore-end.
Sights: Modified PH-1 Parker-Hale tunnel front, PH-25 aperture rear with aperture variations from .080" to .030"
Price in the ook is 700.00 for the ISU standard weight and 735.00 for the Mark V heavy barrel version.
TO put that in some context the same book has the Browning auto 5 magnum 20 listed at 489.95 so I do not know about now but back then it must have been pretty close to top of the line out of the box gun.0 -

here is a pix of the rear sight, the rifle should be mared "mk 1", 11, or 111. these denote slight changes 0
