Opinions on chamber polishing

Just had a customer cuss me out for removing blueing in his 870 Express chamber. Had polished it to 400 grit and it test fired great with low and high brass. He took it home and claims it stuck for him. I took a plastic rod (part of a clothes hanger) with a slot in it for the emory cloth.

What are your methods? I will be called on the carpet for this!

    My Taurus 941 in 22wmrf used to have sticky extraction until I polished the chambers with JB Bore Paste on a Dremel mop. Ditto with a friend's 85UL in 17HMR and another friend's Rem742 in 30-06.

    I don't mess with the chambers unless shells stick. You always run the chance of changing something for the worst. Never had much luck putting metal back.

    Polishing a chamber does NOTHING negative to a chamber,..only POSITIVE. You can NOT, remove material from the chamber using compounds and a drill. The time it takes for compound to remove even .0001" is astronomical. Your guy is an idiot. Not to mention, there shouldn't be bluing in the chamber.

    Now,..how on God's Green earth does he have ejection issues when you had none?? Sounds like operator error or an extractor issue

    Or ammo as I also suggested. He really got upset when I told him blueing was a form of rust!

    Big difference in methiods. you stated you ended with 400 grit, but not what you started with.
    Using sandpaper on a stick can lead to surface "dips" at those places you stopped moving, or even where you slowed down in your motion.

    400 GRIT IS THE ROUGHEST I WOULD EVER USE, EVEN IN A RUSTY CHAMBER. THAT WAY YOU DONT CHANCE DIPPING OR RIPPLING THE CHAMBER, BUT OTHER THAN THAT POLISHING A CHAMBER IS A VERY OFTEN USED PROCEDURE IN ANY REPAIR SHOP & ALMOST ALWAYS USED AFTER CUTTING ANY CHAMBER.[:)]

    $00 is the only used with a final pass with Starbright compound in a drill at a constant speed and motion. It was a tight fit so no "wobble" occured.

    You did nothing wrong. Bluing is never left in any chamber or inside a barrel since it is a form of rust and it has a higher coefficient of friction which DOES make cases stick. Your bosses need to know this and support your position.

    If your customer doesn't understand this then you need to do the test firing with your bosses and the customer watching. Educating the under-informed is part of your job.

    Thanks I was hoping for your input, you carry allot of weight in my books. He heard my test fires and I ejected the final one in his presence outside of the test fire room (snail). He did admit it worked fine for a couple shots then started sticking again.
