Marlin .338 Express MPBR

Can anyone tell me about the Maximum Point Blank Range (MPBR) on the new .338 Marlin Express, 200 grain FTX loading? The advertising for the rifle/ammo, as seen in The American Rifleman, shows that the .338 is virtually a dead heat with the .30-06 180 grain load out to 400 yards. That being said, is it correct to assume that both the .338 Marlin Express and the .30-06 180 grain exhibit the same MPBR? If so, what do the ballistic programs say the MPBR is? And what is the size of the target area, 4 inches, 6 inches? A friend is acquiring a new Marlin .338 as his very first rifle, and to be used as a cow elk meat cutter in December. He will mount a Leoupld VX-II scope, and the question of MPBR is now arising. Thanks.

    It all depends on the target size, and sight height. I would say that if you sight in for 2 inches high, that your maximum rise should be 2.5-3 inches, ant the point where is is 4 inches low would be about 250 yards. That would be more than good on a cow elk, even out to 300 yards or so, holding dead center of chest.
