Stevens Offhand No 35 Pistol

The part that engages the barrel to hold it closed has separated from the threaded rod. They seem to have been originally soldered togethered. Perhaps not adequately soldered originally. Can anyone offer the best way to reattach the two pieces by attempting to resolder or perhaps a super glue or can this part be easily found and purchased?

    It was originally two pieces that were fused together and then became a unit or one piece which has now has separated back into the two original pieces. The threads on the rod were ground flat so the flat side of the other piece could joined flat to flat. It may be possible to solder the two pieces back together but maybe tricky as they are small and would have to fit back inside the slot.

    Mine was a replacement and a one piece part.
    If yours is two piece you should use HARD (not soft) solder or braze and file to fit the slot. The parts need to be 90 degrees to each other or the joint may come apart again.
    A jeweler might do a neater job.

    I hadn't thought of a jeweler. I do want a neat job and may talk to one before attempting it myself. I also agreed about a hard solder.I don't know much of the super glue stuff that on TV is strong enough to lift an elephant but I may look into it too. I searched for parts on the web but came up with nothing yet. thanks

    Glue will not work. Do it right.

    Bill DeShivs: I wasn't ignoring your posts. I appreciate all replies.Your 1st reply came in while I was making a post. I went to your website and have it stored. I find you are in TN,I am from PA. I do not know If the local Jewelers actually would have the best experience for this type of solder job. I would feel better to intrust it to an experienced "Old Timer" (your words) such as yourself. The two parts consist of a threaded piece approx 1" long with approx 1/4" of length gound to a flat which matches the flat on the piece that would engage the slot in the barrel when closed. There is virtually no space(very little room for solder) between the two parts. However a greater thickness of solder may make the width too long to fit into the slot. Apparently from the other posts two others know of the same part formed out of one piece. My pistol is of later production{stamped trigger guard] and Stevens{Savage) may have economized making this part? Anyhow maybe a professional solder job will do the trick. I will try to locate a part but I guess the chances are slim. If no part found in a short time, I would want you to do the hard solder job .
