8 mm ammo

I recently sold some 8mm ammo here, and faced the harse reality of trying to ship it to a residence that was out of state.
Needless t say as i am sure many of you already know, turned out to be a monumental fubar.
So i gave up, and refunded the buyers money.
Is there anyone in NY, preferably long island that might be interested in some 8mm ammo. I was using this ammo for my k98 that i recently sold. It would have to be a local pick up, and i would let it go at a bargain, i think there are 227 rounds, mixed commercial and military.

I am not sure if i should even be posting this here, so if i have violated some rule, please let me know

    What's the problem with shipping ammo across state lines?

    fedex needs an acct setup which in itself is no big deal. But they will not allow you to drop it off at a fedex drop off point, they have to pick it up. The difference in shipping is $16 for a 12 lb box that i could have dropped off to a $60 price for them to pick it up.
    UPS, was cheaper, only $24 to ship, but they didn't like the fact that the shells made noise in the box, and wanted another 15 to repack, and then had to call the FBI for aouthorization to ship, and i would have had to fill out a hazmat contract.

    Other than that there are no issues.

    Can can ship ammo I do it all the time. However you must take it to a ups hub/distribution center. People say fedex will take ammo and some locations will but I have a fedex hub by me and they state their corporate policy is to ship ammo only dealer to dealer

    ammo must ship from a hub and box must have ..ORM-D small arms cartridge sticker on it

    Just ship it UPS! Go online and open and account with UPS, weigh the package, stick an ORM-D sticker on it and drop it off at the UPS hub!

    Small arms ammo up to 66 lbs can be shipped by UPS GROUND, label is ORM-D, Cartridges, small arms. Does NOT require FBI approval to ship. Does NOT require HAZMAT acct. Should be "adult signature required". May have to ship from a hub, altho my local UPS store will ship for me. DO NOT use US Mail.

    Wrap the ammo tightly in plastic bags and then stuff the box with newspaper!

    I am going to repackage the ammo and give UPS another try.
    I will let everyone here know what happens.

    It rattles? So they wouldn't take it? That's a new one on me.

    I don't often ship ammo. I shoot it. But on occasion, when I have some surplus to my needs, I've used UPS. Given that there is no hub near me (nearest is about 35 miles) I usually choose the pickup option, even though it costs a bit more. The only downside there is, you need a weight to schedule the pickup. In which case, I take the unmarked box to the post office and have them weigh it. If they ask I say it's so I can put the proper rates on my ebay auction or whatever. Then it's pretty simple, just type in the pick up info and print out the shipping label.

    You do need an ORM-D label though. You can find this on google clipart and just print it out.

    I repackaged the ammo, broke it down to groups of 10 rounds, then rolled them in a few sheets of newspaper. Did that until all of the amo was wrapped, made sure i had paper between the wrapped groups, then made sure there was no space at the top of the box, and filled that with paper, made sure they were packed in there like sardines,took it to UPS, and they accepted it with no problem.
    So the motto here is when shipping ammo make sure it doesnt clink.lol

    Sounds to me like the UPS and Fed-Ex people in your area are anti's, and over zealous. They don't even know their own rules. Actually the same goes for most USPS post offices. I had to explain to a post master that I could ship a rifle thru his office to an FFL. He refused untill I told him that I was going to call his supervisor at the main office in Rochester, NY. Just remind them, that it is their companies rules, not theirs, and that their companie's rules are available on line.
