.22 Rifle Suggestions

Thank you very much for the time & effort you took to answer my qusetions. For some unknown reason, the thread was locked & I couldn't reply there so, hopefully, you'll see this. After I read my post again, I should have been more clear about a couple of things.
First of all, it's not my first experience w/ hunting rifles, it's just that I haven't tried anything in that range (.22), and have used larger calibers but didn't know what the reccomended limitations etc are for this one. The way ammo prices have been going, I figured this caliber would be as good as any in the future for price and availability & wanted to have one I could shoot whenever, without breaking the bank. The 30 lb. gauge makes sense as well. Also, price wise, I'm looking to get gun & scope for no more than about $1200, if that's possible. And definitely want something of quality so, if I must go up a bit that's ok. I figured I'd save over time with the ammo. Thanks again all.

Anyway I didnt' get to reply to your first post, but I'll go ahead and recommend a Savage 93 with the heavy barrel in 22 magnum, and spend the rest of your $ on glass and ammo. Mine shoots about 1" at 100 yards, and I'm not a great shot. Clay pigeons at 224 yards (the berm at the range I use) are easy and fun all day long. Ammo is a tad more, but not much.0 -
The leading .22 long rifle in my club is the CZ 452 American with a good scope sight. That will do anything short of NRA competition. 0 -

There are several nice quality .22 LR rifles available in the U.S. Most are very reasonably priced. If you want to step up a little, you can look for a used Savage/Anschutz Model 54 or a Winchester Model 52. I have a preference for the Mauser ES 340 rifles which have proven to be very accurate and superbly made much like the Anschutz. There is also the Remington 40X in rimfire. Sako makes a nice switch barrel rifle which has the availability of 4-rimfire barrels. It's named the Sako Quad:

Barrels are available in the 17 M2, 17 HMR, 22 LR and the 22 WMR. Pricey, yes, but it has every rimfire barrel you will ever want or need except the 5mm.
The ultimate .22 LR are probably the Anschutz lines. They have a couple of models that are at the introductory level but most are at the upper levels of pricing and made for competition.
The only hunting that the rimfires should be used for is rabbits and squirrels. If you desire to hunt larger game, get a bigger cartridge and that will necessitate a longer discussion with more details to be supplied by you.

You said you wanted a scope... hmmm.. I would suggest just about anything out there for a shooter is going to be under $1200. I have my biased opinion, but I would encourage you to go shopping and see what catches your eye and fancy. Here you get opinions formed on experience, but that is unique to the individual. 0 -
The ultimate rifle of my choice and scope in the price range you suggested would be as follows.
CZ 453 Varmint or American, and top it with Burris Signature series 4-16x scope. I would go with the mill dot or ballistic mil dot reticle. This will prove to be more accurate than most shooters.
The Sako Quad, as Nononse suggested is also a great option...especially with all four barrels.
