s&w M&P 9mm
Does anyone else have an m&p 9mm that feels like there's sand in the damn trigger? Mine has a very crunchy take up. Also, it patterns like a shotgun. C'mon Smith and Wesson! This was my first S&W and although i can appreciate that you guys have a wonderful company, you've ruined it for me. I would've expected this lack of quality if I had bought a sigma. I bought an HK p30 to replace the M&P and I won't be back. No more smiths for me. I'm very dissappointed. On the other hand, I'll put the HK up against my kimber any day as far as accuracy and pleasure to shoot. If you have a chance to get a P30, DON'T PASS IT UP!

My wife wants to get her CCW permit. We went to a couple of stores today and she likes the feel of the S&W M&P 9mm. This won't be her first gun or first time shooting. She has had a Taurus .38 revolver for along time but wants to up grade to an auto. She tried several makes and models and the one that fit her best was the Smith. I don't know much about this gun and was wondering what opinions everyone had about it or the S&W company. 0 -
I have been carrying an M&Pc for about 6 months now and love it. It fits good, is accurate, light recoil, fun, carries very well. I can not say enough good things about it.
The trigger is a little on the heavy side when compared to my 3.5lb triggers in my Glock. This is not to say it is a bad trigger, just not what I am use to but it still shoots great for and anyone I have handed it too.
EDIT: Actually the 3.5 lb trigger is stock in the G34 and G35 which are the 2 I shoot most these days. I did add a 3.5 lb to my G17 but it did some stock with a 5.5.
There was a guy on the M&P forums that was doing trigger jobs and some seemed quite happy with them. I was thinking about doing it only for the lower weight. Might do a web search on the M&P trigger an see what you can come up with.0 -
FWIW factory spec on a Glock trigger is 5.5 lbs.
On the Smith M&P, like many out of the box brand new guns, the trigger would probably smooth out after a bunch of firing.
Before getting all bent out of shape, I'd have tried simply dry firing it a couple hundred times with a snap cap (an hour in front of the tube would have you covered there). I bet you'd have seen a significant improvement.0 -
I wasn't referring to trigger pull weight. That was fine with me and it was a crisp, clean break. I was referring to the crunchyness of the take up. These problems persisted well after break in. I also noticed it on other guns of the same model at the range and at the stores. This was not my first firearm. I've been shooting for 20+ years. This just happened to by my first Smith and Wesson. Overall quality of the fit and finish was great, don't get me wrong. It was definitely a good fitting, low recoiling, and well carrying firearm. I agree, I am definitely being very picky here and mean no disrespect to smith shooters, however, I have to say I was honestly disappointed. I wasn't expecting the quality of my Kimber, but considering the price of the M&P, I was expecting something better than my XD. I've been told that due to the nature of the design of the trigger, the sandy feel can't be fixed. I'm glad the two of you enjoy your M&P's and hope you continue to do so for a long time, I just can't shake the disappointment though. Is there anyone who HAS noticed these problems? Hopefully there's just a bad batch that was distributed to my area... I hate to have to avoid such a historically great company. 0
