Taurus P T 25
I recently bought a taurus pt 25 and read the instruction booklet. With the chamber and magazine unloaded and in I can't pull the slide back with one hand. With the safety on or off it still won't slide back. I had to hold it muzzle up on it's back on a bench and push on the slide with both hands. Is this because it's new and the spring is stiff? I thought about putting a round in the chamber and trying to shoot it since the barrel breaks open and I could single load it one shot at a time. Any ideas or just send it back?

There is no need to pull the slide back at all. Insert a loaded magazine, then open the barrel and insert a round in the chamber. Close barrel and shoot. The gun was designed to work this way.

.22 is NOT more powerful from a 2" barrel. I agree he should be able to pull back the slide, though. Why would you think that is the preferred method? These guns were designed this way specifically so you DON'T have to pull the slide back. Why else would they bother with a tip up barrel?0 -
Thanks, I had no idea cause the instruction booklet says to insert the magazine and pull back the slide to put the round in the chamber. I guess I was used to my S&W 22A where you can pull back the slide with two fingers. Thanks Again 0 -
You might want to check to see if the gun has a key lock on it in the hammer area. Especially if there are keys included with it. If it does lock the hammer, then this is why. The 25 Auto is less powerfull than the 22LR, and you should be able to pull that slide back without to much effort. The instruction manual says that is the preferred method to use, and you should be abled to do it.

I would say that using the slide to chamber a round from the magazine is preferred, as it is in the PRINTED MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS. That is a fairly simple thing to read. It is my personal opinion that the Beretta designed tip up barrel was to be used with CENTER FIRE cartridges, as with rimfire there is always the outside possibility, that when closing the barrel, if the slide is a little forward of battery...which it is...,of igniting the primer prematurely with the barrel not fully in battery. Being this is such a small pistol, there is a more than not possibility that if this happens, that the barrel will not be pointed in a safe direction...no matter what direction it is pointing.
It is also common knowledge that most of the hyper velocity rounds of 22LR are much more powerful than the 25 Auto. The only thing the 25 has on the 22LR is reliability because of the centerfire primer. The 22LR also has better penetration than the 25 Auto.

Doesn't it have the "tip up" barrel too? I usually load the mag and then put one right into the barrel. Then you are at 10 rounds- unless I have an older one- I bought it in 1996.quote:Originally posted by pirate2501

yes it does have a tip up barrel. Did you have any trouble moving the slide when you first got yours? 0 -
I have on in 22. Load the mag,tip up the barrel and load it.I tried to pull the slide back on mine and it is tough. 0
