T/C Icon Classic 300 Win Mag

Just wanted some feed back on this rifle.


I have one on order I really like all the features from the bedding system, interchangable bolt handles, to the 5R rifled barrel.

I have held the short action ICON and I love the stock but I have been unable to look at the new Icon Classic's Stock just wondering if it is as pretty as the ICON?

    Any decent and accurate rifle in 300 Win Mag is a thing to behold. It can really do the unimaginable in the right hands. I suspect the Icon is no different, and from what I have seen it is rather well built...as is anything from TC.

    From what I've seen so far, and that isn't a whole lot, these rifles are very accurate, feed reliably and look good. I don't have a lot of field or bench testing behind me on these though. I like the interchangeable bolt handles, and general modular composition of the rifle so that you, yourself can make a number of changes.

    T/C makes a number of good products. This one would serve you well. That is if you feel the $800+ price tag is worth it. I do, but at this point I've already got too many irons in the fire to get one.

    The answer to your question lies in the fact that the first few hundred T/C Icons were stocked from a very select batch of exhibition grade blanks. This batch of blanks has been used and the quality of wood in use now is diminished from the first run.

    "Like the original, the new Icon's barreled action is pillar bedded into an attractive American walnut stock with 20-lpi cut checkering. However, the Icon Classic has a more pedestrian grade of walnut than the rich, finely figured select-grade walnut offered on the short-action guns."

    This statement indicates that the wood will be more than adequate but not nearly the extreme of the original few hundred.

    For the price tag on this gun i expect it to be a higher end chunk of walnut. Not the best but much better than avg. To me the T\C website is a little misleading. On the auction side i cant find a picture of a long action ICON classic they only show the short action 'ultra wood' models. If any one can find a good picture of the long action icon i would highly appreciate it.

    We'd all like to have outstanding wood on our rifles and not have to pay the increase in price for it. If the supposed lack of expensive wood on the Classic bothers you based on the price you paid, take a look at similar rifles, commanding and getting the same price but stocked with plywood.

    Nicely put. Not much else I can say to that. But thanks for the good picture. I feel sure it will be nice.
