Remington Model 700 5R - 308 - Short or Long

Guys - I need some help please. I just purchased a Ken Farrell base to put on to my Remington 5R 308 and the base I bought states that it is for a Remington long action. Is the 308 considered to be a long or short action? This base will not line up correctly. The holes on the base are to far apart. The guy I bought the base from said the 308 is a long action but this thing does not fit. I did go to the Ken Farrell site and the one I have does state for long action. The part number is - Rem.7L.1.0 on the base.

    .308 is a short action cartridge.

    The vendor was wrong or maybe he just wanted to sell that base real bad.

    Thank you Mr. Hawk. Guess I just learned what I should have learned long ago. Thank you Sir for your quick reply. Now I will email Mr. Farrell and ask him if I can exchange this base for a short action.

    be sure to go with low rings since farrell bases are a bit high.

    JustC - I will do that. Thanks for the suggestion. I was going to buy rings next week as soon as my base comes in and with a 44mm objective I will purchase the low set first. Thanks again Mark

    44mm, sounds like a Burris Signature Series[:D]

    anyway, the farrell bases are high enough that low or even extra low are workable up past 50mm.

    Farrell makes great stuff for the money.

    Do search and compare the height of farrell to Badger ordnance or IOR Valdada bases. Those bases are a LOT lower, so the higher rings are needed,..although I have never gone over high, and mostly meduim hieght to clear a 56MM on even FAT barrels. But then I like my scope tight to the rifle, not sitting up off the barrel.
